Opening the roll reveals a fitted interior with numerous pigeonholes, small drawers and compartments for organising papers, stationery and correspondence. The exterior provides nine drawers across the twin pedestals and centre, giving the desk an impressive amount of storage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Cutler name is particularly associated with American roll-top desks. Abner Cutler of Buffalo, New York, patented an influential flexible slat roll top desk design in the 1880s, and Cutler desks became well-known pieces of American office furniture.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOf particular interest is the original plaque mounted to the front of the desk, reading “Arthur E. Stitchbury \u0026amp; Coy. Ltd., Office Furniture Specialists, Sydney.” Arthur E. Stitchbury \u0026amp; Co. were the Australian importer and supplier of this desk, dating it to approximately 1920–1930.
