Description: A fine antique Australian cedar chest of eight drawers, showcasing the quality of craftsmanship and practical design associated with nineteenth-century Australian cabinetmaking. Constructed entirely from Australian cedar, this substantial chest retains its original mother-of-pearl-inlaid timber handles and features attractive cedar corbels beneath the top.
The drawer configuration comprises a full-width top drawer above two generous hat drawers, separated by two centrally positioned glove drawers. Beneath these are three equal-height, full-width drawers, providing excellent storage for clothing, linen, or household items.
A feature of this chest is its solid cedar construction throughout. In addition to the cedar exterior, the sides, bases and backs of every drawer are also constructed from cedar, demonstrating the quality of materials used in its manufacture.
With its warm cedar grain, generous storage capacity and original period hardware, this chest would make a striking addition to a bedroom, hallway or living space while offering practical everyday use.
