Description: A beautiful antique Australian cedar bookcase dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880, with lovely proportions and particularly attractive carved detailing.
The upper section has a substantial moulded cornice above two tall glazed doors, which retain their original glass. Inside are three adjustable timber shelves, allowing the display space to be arranged to suit books, china, glassware or a favourite collection.
One of the most appealing features is the carved decoration running down either side of the glazed section, with finely worked leaf and scroll motifs. Matching carved details appear beneath the projecting top of the lower cabinet, giving the piece a lovely sense of balance without being overly ornate.
The lower section provides generous concealed storage behind two solid panelled cedar doors. Inside, there is one fixed shelf, providing approximately 30 cm of clearance above and below it.
The Australian cedar has developed a beautiful, warm colour and a natural grain that make this timber so appealing. With adjustable display shelving above and practical closed storage below, this is a particularly useful piece of genuine Australian antique furniture.
