Description: An antique Australian cedar Victorian armchair featuring a beautifully carved balloon-shaped back, deep buttoned velvet upholstery and an impressive decorative timber frame.
The distinctive backrest is crowned with carved grape clusters and vine leaves, a particularly attractive detail that reflects Victorian decorative craftsmanship. The generously proportioned back is upholstered in rich burgundy velvet with traditional diamond button tufting, framed by the graceful curves of the polished cedar timber.
The sweeping armrests feature upholstered velvet pads and elegantly shaped timber supports, flowing into a broad, generously cushioned seat. A serpentine front seat rail and carved cabriole legs, fitted with castors, complete the traditional Victorian design.
This substantial armchair has the character and presence associated with fine Australian colonial furniture. The combination of richly figured cedar, decorative carving and deep buttoned upholstery makes it an appealing statement piece for a formal sitting room, library, bedroom or traditional interior.
