Description: A substantial, highly decorative cast-metal umbrella and walking-stick stand, featuring an elaborate openwork design with two classical female figures surrounded by flowing acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and scrolling foliage. The upper section is crowned with a decorative wreath and ribbon bow, which also serves as a convenient carrying handle, while the lower section features an oval cartouche framed by further ornamental detailing.
The two female figures are modelled in classical drapery, each standing beneath the upper support rail. The shaped base is decorated with raised foliate designs and incorporates a removable drip tray for collecting water from umbrellas.
Finished in black, the heavy cast metal construction and intricate detailing are characteristic of Victorian decorative ironwork. The combination of classical figures, elaborate scrollwork and substantial proportions makes this an impressive example of a traditional hall stand, particularly suited to an antique entrance hall or period interior.
