The table features a rectangular storage compartment beneath a decorative double-sloping hinged lid, which opens to reveal an internal timber tray. The tray can be lifted out completely or conveniently slid from one side to the other, allowing access to the additional storage space beneath without having to remove the tray.
This thoughtful arrangement provides separate storage areas for sewing threads, needles, scissors, embroidery materials and other small accessories. The deeper compartment beneath the tray offers additional space for larger items, making the table as practical today as it was when originally used.
The exterior displays the rich reddish-brown tones and attractive natural grain of English mahogany. The shaped lid is finished with a decorative central timber fitting, while the neatly proportioned body sits above four graceful cabriole legs, each sweeping outwards before finishing in a traditional pad foot.
The curved legs and distinctive raised lid give the table a refined Queen Anne appearance, while its compact proportions make it suitable for a variety of interiors.
Although traditionally designed as a sewing or needlework table, this versatile antique would also make an attractive occasional table or decorative storage piece in a bedroom, sitting room or study.
