Description: The beautifully figured walnut veneer surrounding this antique English overmantel mirror is its most distinctive feature, with rich swirling grain patterns and warm reddish-brown tones creating an attractive decorative finish.
The substantial arched frame features a broad curved top, gently rounded upper corners and a traditional rectangular base. The walnut veneer has been arranged to highlight the natural figuring of the timber, with contrasting grain patterns adding depth and interest throughout the frame.
A narrow decorative inlaid border follows the arch, providing a subtle contrast against the richly figured walnut. The simple, restrained design allows the beauty of the timber to remain the main feature, while the generous mirror plate provides a large reflective surface.
An interesting detail is the pair of tiny porcelain bun feet beneath the frame, allowing the mirror to rest neatly on a mantelpiece or other suitable surface. These delicate feet add an unusual finishing touch to the substantial walnut frame.
Originally designed to sit above a fireplace, this overmantel mirror would also look beautiful positioned above a sideboard, console table or chest of drawers. Its broad proportions make it particularly suitable for a living room, dining room or entrance hall, where it can reflect natural light and create a greater sense of space.
The combination of the arched silhouette, decorative walnut veneer, porcelain bun feet and traditional English design makes this a particularly appealing piece for those who appreciate antique furniture and interiors featuring natural timber.
