Description: Dating to circa 1880, this substantial antique French bucket is constructed from oak with traditional metal strapping and has the wonderful rustic character associated with nineteenth-century French country and vineyard pieces.
Round in form, the bucket features an unusual internal carry handle that sits flush with the top, keeping the opening unobstructed. A central metal rod connects the handle to the base, providing additional strength and stability to the construction.
Buckets of this type were often found in the vineyards and rural regions of France, where robust timber vessels were an essential part of everyday working life. Today, its generous proportions and authentic aged appearance make it an incredibly versatile decorative and functional piece.
Originally suitable for carrying or storing coal and kindling, it can now be used beside a fireplace for firewood, as an umbrella or walking-stick stand, a generous planter for indoor or outdoor use, a container for rolled towels, or as a striking vessel for dried branches and large floral arrangements.
Its solid oak construction, metal strapping and naturally aged character make this a distinctive example of French country craftsmanship that can be enjoyed in an entrance hall, beside a fireplace, in a conservatory, courtyard or garden.
