Description: A striking example of 19th-century French craftsmanship, this antique oval glass dome was initially designed to showcase treasured objects such as clocks, taxidermy specimens, religious statues, or sentimental keepsakes. Popular during the Victorian era, these domes were prized for their elegance and practicality, commonly displayed in French parlours and salons to both protect and elevate cherished curios.
The glass is hand-blown and original to the 19th century, identifiable by its characteristic clarity and subtle waviness typical of antique domes. While the gilt-finished base with red lining is a later addition and not original, it complements the dome’s form beautifully and provides a striking backdrop for display.
