Richly embellished with heavy, ornate gilt-brass ormolu mounts throughout, this elegant desk combines exceptional craftsmanship with practicality, making it an outstanding centrepiece for a distinguished office, library or executive study.
The desk features three generously sized frieze drawers to the working side, with matching false drawers to the reverse. This traditional design allows the desk to be positioned proudly in the centre of a room, providing an equally impressive appearance from both front and back, unlike desks designed to sit against a wall.
The shaped top has been protected for many years by a custom-made glass top, preserving the timber beneath while remaining an attractive feature of the desk. The elegant cabriole legs are finished with decorative ormolu mounts and sabots, complementing the finely detailed brass ornamentation throughout.
The bureau plat became a hallmark of French furniture during the eighteenth century, favoured in grand homes and palaces for its sophisticated proportions and practicality. Today it remains one of the most sought-after desk styles, equally suited to traditional interiors and executive office spaces.
